You should always make sure that the highest percentage of what you give actually goes to relief efforts and not to the overhead expenses of the charity.

UMCOR ( United Methodist Committee on Relief) is completely funded through the offerings of Methodist churches so that any donations made through UMCOR go 100% to the relief effort designated by the donor. All administrative costs, etc are already covered and the support structure for efforts are already in place. Very few other organizations send 100% of donations to the cause specified. You can and should always check the percentage given when using any charity.

Many non-Methodists chose to donate through UMCOR because they know that their giving will do directly to aid.
